beauty, deep thoughts

This Facebook post is so, so good.

I love having this blog because it gives my internet browsing a purpose. Instead of feeling like I’m aimlessly wasting my life online, I can now call my internet habit ‘research’. I have a specific goal in this space of amplifying and commenting on the things I love on the internet aside from my own original writing, so lately I’ve found myself spending less time on sites and blogs that are ‘lifestyle’ aka perfectly curated slices of people’s lives that tend to make me feel bad about myself and more time in the corners of the web that are a little weirder, a little less perfect, a little more…real.

And, wow, I love what I am finding.

Today I visited The Bloggess for the first time in a while and was reminded how much I love her and her weird infatuation with taxidermy. She recently shared a series of posts about things that make her happy. Her The Best Thing I Read post included a Facebook post by poet Naomi Shihab Nye that brought me to tears.

beautiful poem

I feel this so much. Not everything is lost. I just need to repeat it. Not everything is lost. We can feel like it in the moment, but there is always, always light that we can reach for. There is always kindness we can extend and joy we can suss out of our days, even in the darkest of times. If we allow it, we can stay rooted in our deep sense of knowing of the good of people and of the good of our world.

Do you have anything that you read that made your eyes sting with tears at its simple beauty? Anyone else weepy AF right now? No? Just me?
