I’m Going to Blog my Way Through Rent the Runway Unlimited

December 2, 2019

As a professional woman in my mid-thirties, I’d venture a guess that I am the target consumer for Rent the Runway unlimited. Let me just say, they do an excellent job with their targeting because I see their ads everywhere. Seriously, everywhere. I cannot escape the Rent the Runway Unlimited ads even if I try. Perhaps all this ad exposure has gotten to me, but I am intrigued. Is it worth $159 a month? Do they have a good range of styles in sizes for me? Will it arrive reliably? How much of a pain will it be to manage the subscription?

So many questions!

So, I’m taking one for the team and signing up for Rent the Runway Unlimited. I want to do an unpaid, unfiltered long-term review and share my learnings with you. Why? Because I’m sure you’re also getting lots of ads from them and I want you to be adequately informed before you spend your coins.

Signing up was really, really simple. A discount code from one of those targeted ads on my Instagram Stories worked. I used the code ‘RTRVogue’ to save $50 for my first three months, so I feel pretty good about it. They only asked me my height and weight, so I’m a bit nervous that most of the stuff I ordered isn’t going to fit. Bodies are varied, you know? But, I’m still excited to see what I’m going to get. It’s pretty exciting to be shopping brands I love but never splurge on like Diane Von Furstenberg, Vince and Theory.

I perused the site for a bit and ‘hearted’ about a dozen items. I’m a bit nervous that I didn’t like more stuff. There just wasn’t a lot of variety for me. I suspect it’s because of my ‘extended size’. I also don’t LOVE dresses, but that seems to provide the most options for my size. At any rate, I picked my first shipment, which includes the following items:

Within about an hour, I got a text telling me my items were on the way, set to arrive on  12/3. I had hoped it would be two day shipping, but it’s closer to a week. Perhaps it’s because of the holiday?

At any rate, I’m excited for the items I have headed my way. They are items I would love to wear, but probably wouldn’t buy for myself. I think that’s the point of this service, so I’m excited.

I’ll check in with you again soon for an update on my first box. Cross your fingers that I like them!

Do you do Rent the Runway Unlimited? What do you think?

What I Wore this Week

November 29, 2019

I love style and getting dressed every morning, so I’d like to share my daily outfits with you all every week.

I don’t fool myself thinking that I’m some fashion maven, but I love the idea of doing this series because it will help me see how my style evolves (or not!) over time. I also hope it shares what it looks like to get dressed when you are a ‘real’ person, not a fashion blogger. I want to show my real, oft-repeated outfits because I think it will help bring a dose of reality back to the interwebs. I see a lot of posts with a #ootd but I know that most of them are aspirational versions of outfits of the day specifically curated to get you to buy more stuff. I want to document what I’m actually wearing in real-time with you all so that we can share ideas together.

Now, this post idea sounds really good in theory, but it is awkward as hell to take a picture of myself every morning before I head out the door. You’ll see that the first day had slippers, peanuts and Keith’s Bud Light from the night before in the shot! I have no idea how to pose or anything, but I’m genuine and I love my clothes and I hope you’ll find it funny, useful and/or interesting. And, as always, if it’s not for you, feel free to read something else that’s more your speed.

My Thoughts:

It was my first day back from medical leave + I had to resign, so I wanted to be as comfortable as possible this day. I wore my trusty high top Van’s and some amazingly comfortable cigarette washed black jeans from the Gap. I usually don’t like to wear their jeans, but these ones fit so well and are so comfortable, I can’t get enough. I want to wear them all the time. I topped it all off with an old grey sweater from Asos and called it a day.

Tuesday

My thoughts:

I went a bit fancy this day and I can’t even explain why. I wore some cute paper bag pants I got on super clearance from Express for about $10, topped with a simple black turtleneck tee from Express. Can I tell you how happy I am that turtlenecks are back in style? I loved them in the 90s and I love them now. My boots are a pair I bought on sale at the Nordstrom rack for $50 a while back, but I bought them because they reminded me a bit of the boss boot from Everlane that I really like. I love Everlane’s quality and transparency, but I just can’t afford to buy their shoes right now.

Wednesday

My thoughts:

Warriors game!! I loved this outfit because I got support my beloved team at the game on Wednesday night, but I didn’t have to wear the bright yellow or blue that I typically wear. I paired it simple black skinny jeans from Old Navy + my favorite boots ever from Asos.

Thursday – Thanksgiving!

My thoughts:

Can I just tell you how much I loved my Thanksgiving outfit yesterday? I felt like I slayed my ideal style with a seasonally relevant twist! I layered a beautiful mustard sweater from Madewell (last season, but here’s a similar one) over my very well-worn but still awesome Geneva dress from Universal Standard. Add my fav black boots from Asos as well as the most comfortable spanx opaque tights I got from Target and it was a winner, winner turkey dinner.

Friday:

My thoughts:

I have a terrible cold today, so I will not be wearing any sort of cute outfit at all. Sometimes I just have to keep it real, I’m in old pajamas and a zip up hoodie today and neither of them should see the light of day.

Thanks for reading along for my first week of ‘What I Wore’ outfits. What did you wear this week? Any new outfits that you loved? Let’s share style inspo with one another!

What should I wear to the office holiday party?

November 27, 2019

I’m starting a new job soon and I happen to start the exact same week as the office holiday party. Talk about nerve-wracking! I want to make a bit of a splash at the formal affair, but I don’t want to go too overboard. Here are a few items I’m eyeing:

I love the idea of a dramatic cape dress in a bright holiday red like this cute little dress from Eloquii. Could I be so bold?

Maybe I should keep it classy and go with an elegant black one-piece with a fun little peplum detail? I could see myself rocking this with some edgy black or snakeskin boots or perhaps a strappy heel. The question is, will I feel comfortable in a tank top? This piece doesn’t lend itself to a jacket situation very well.

Speaking of jumpsuits, what if I went for the drama with a velvet statement like this one from Fashion to Figure? I’m so in love. It screams holiday in a current and fun way. I’d just need to figure out some sort of undershirt because I don’t want the girls on display that much at a work event.

Lastly, I love this little lady. At $29, she’s an affordable, comfortable dress in a cute holiday color. I could see her working well with some tights + booties and a longline blazer. Bonus points: I could wear this to more than the holiday party because it’s not as much of a MOMENT.

What do you think? I’m leaning toward #3 or #4. Please help me make a decision!

Do you have a holiday party dress sorted yet?
