The Internet is Magic, Volume X

April 21, 2020

The internet has been making me cry happy tears lately. Here are a few links I’d love to share because the internet truly is magic…

A dancing mascot! I watched this three times and it just made me so happy.

Humans of New York is better than ever lately. I loved this post and this one, too.

The most beautiful thing on the internet for me lately is my wonderful Hipline community and choreographers. Taking zoom classes with my ladies is getting me through the toughest of days. Take a class with me? I dance on Tuesdays at 7:45 and Saturdays at 12:45 without fail, plus other classes on a whim.

Another lovely internet perk is my friend Karah is now offering online consultations for her esthetics business, Idell Beauty. I want to get started on an anti-aging regimen and she was so patient and lovely in our initial consult in explaining to most basic of skincare to me. If you book an online consult for $20, you get $20 toward product in her shop. Let’s support a brilliant, beautiful small business owner.

I must have tragic optimism (New York Times) because I think this coronavirus is going to make us better and stronger as people even amidst such deep suffering. It already is. “But even in the darkest of places, they see glimmers of light, and this ultimately sustains them.” AMEN.

What else? Do you have any amazing finds on the interwebs lately?

The Internet is Magic, Volume IX

April 13, 2020

Welcome to the latest edition of The Internet is Magic! I think we can all agree that some awesomeness is happening online these days, but I still wanted to pop in with a little link round up to brighten your day. Enjoy!

As a lemon bar aficionado, I really loved The Kitchn’s popular online lemon bar recipe review. I’ve made Deb Perelman’s before and really enjoyed them, but I must admit that the author made quite a compelling case for Martha’s. I’ll take any excuse to make a lemon bar….

I thought it was heartwarming to see medical workers putting their photos on the outside of their PPE.

Now I want to watch Insecure and I also like Issa Rae even more than before. Her list of current projects is exhausting. How does she do all that?

If you want some escapism, may I recommend The Little Magpie’s Italian road trip series from last Summer? Italy is truly my dream destination and photos like these are why. I read and I sent love to Italy and everything they have gone through with Corona.

I dream of owning a hot tub one day. Hungry Runner Girl is making me so jealous with her family hot tub content right now. What I wouldn’t do to have a hot tub to escape to in my backyard after these long boring days…

That’s it for me these days. I figure you’ve seen pretty much everything on the internet lately….do you have anything you want to share with me???

The Internet is Magic, Vol VIII, Mental Health Edition

February 24, 2020

Lately, I’ve been struggling a bit with my mental health. I’ve been a bit low emotionally and I’m having trouble focusing on the positive and keeping my thoughts in check from spiraling into panicky patterns and overthinking. I’ve been here before and I know that the best thing I can do is plug into my resources, focus on gratitude, redirect my scary thoughts, move more, medidate, journal, pray and ask for help. The hard thing is that when I’m feeling low, I don’t want to do any of those things!

I’m starting to feel better now, so I wanted to give my future self the gift of a ‘The Internet is Magic’ post focused on the places I can go online to improve my mental health. I’m hoping that maybe some of these resources will be helpful for you, too.

Listening to this guided meditation in the morning really helps me focus on the good in life. Today is a VERY good day!

You know I love pretty much anything by Yung Pueblo, but I really like to read this specific post of his.

I recently realized that my negative emotions are habitual around money, discontentment and creativity. I get fused with those emotions and have trouble breaking the cycle of repetitive, negative thoughts that literally start to affect me on a physical level. This blog post helps me have the energy to reprogram my thoughts.

This would probably be my number one tip: I am listening to the A New Earth podcast with Ekhart Tolle and Oprah again and, wow, it’s just so helpful. It makes you realize how much suffering is caused by the ego and living either in the past or the future.

What about you all? Do you have any resources online for mental health that you’d like to share? If you’re having a tough time, please know my heart goes out to you.
